Why our dog coats are different

Trover ® dog coats are so different that they have a granted UK Patent, UK Registered Design, US Design Patent and International Patents Pending.

Our dog coats have a simple concept that works. The Trover® System consists of a three point anchoring system, (1) the dog’s head goes through the neck opening. (2) and (3) are hind leg cuffs for the hind legs to go in through. There is NO underbelly strap. This system creates a non-restrictive, non-slip method of keeping our coats in place.

The Technical bit… .
Dog coats and dog covers, as seen on the market, are virtually downsized horse rugs. The horse and dog are physiologically very different, one being a herbivore and the other a carnivore. The horse has a large body mass and when running at full flight does not round the spine. The dog, being a hunting
animal, has a lighter body mass which produces maximum propulsion with the help of a flexible spine. This is one of the main reasons why some dogs do not like a tight underbelly strap as it constricts the abdominal cavity, and unless the underbelly strap is secure the coat will slip or dislodge especially in
windy weather. The larger the dog, the more difficult it is to secure a dog coat in this way. The Trover® surefit system overcomes all known dog coat problems in one simple design.

(1) Q. My dog has a long coat, why do I need a Trover ® bone dry dog coat for him?
Ans. The quicker any dog is dried off the less risk there is of long term complications such as joint stiffness. The Bone Dry™ dries your dog quickly and effectively, wicking the moisture away from the animal.

(2) Q. I do not believe in dog coats, they are unnatural.
Ans. The way dogs are kept in the modern world is far from natural. For instance, most houses today are centrally heated and although we may find our house warm when we are clothed, a wet or damp dog coming into the home is subjected to eddies of warm air which, rather than dry the dog out quickly, leaves the dog cool. It is the same effect as a human having had a cold bath standing in a room unclothed. They would feel chilled.

(3) Q.
There are other dog drying covers on the market that do not have underbelly
straps, Why is the Trover ® Bone Dry™ superior?
Ans. The important areas of the dog are completed protected and dried by the Bone Dry™ i.e. the hind quarters and lower back region where the kidneys are situated. The Trover ® Bone Dry™ also allows complete freedom of movement and comfort whether in the house or travelling in the car.

(4) Q. Why not use legs straps?
Ans. Leg straps, by their nature, are thin and uncomfortable They are either too tight and hold the coat secure or, too loose to prevent the coat from slipping and becoming uncomfortable or unsafe. They can be easily soiled by the dog.

(5) Q. How do I put the Trover ® Bone Dry ™ on my dog?
Ans. Put the dog’s head through the neck opening followed by placing each hind leg through the respective leg cuffs, making sure that the legs are flexed in a normal manner not pulling the legs out to the side.

(6) Q. My dog has a stiff hind leg can I use this system?
Ans. In this case, put the stiff leg through the leg cuff first. If the dog has two stiff hind legs do the stiffer leg first and then use the stretch of the fabric and the leg cuff to reach as near to the ground as possible. Unless the dog is very tall the leg cuff should virtually reach to the ground when stretched.

(7) Q. Can my dog toilet in this system?
Ans. Yes, although with the Trover ® Bone Dry™ it is best to cover the dog after toileting especially if the dog is male as it will be possible for the dog to soil the cover.

(8) Q. Why do you not use towelling?
Ans. It is heavy especially when wet, and snags easily. Looper Fleece has superior drying properties, wicks water swiftly away from the animal , is gentle on the animal skin and is very easy to wash and dry.
